FREE EHIC Card – Don’t travel overseas without one!
The EHIC – European Health Insurance Card should be on everyone’s list of “things to pack” when they head overseas on holiday. The EHIC entitles you to free or reduced cost or state healthcare in the EU countries (plus members of the EEA such as Norway and Iceland). The card also entitles holders to the healthcare benefits for pre-existing medical conditions, but it should be remembered is not a substitute for travel insurance, as a fully comprehensive travel insurance policy will cover you for repatriation, lost baggage, delays and so on. It can cost many thousands of pounds to get home if, for example you break a leg and require a special flight to get home.
There are several reasons we are publishing this little article about the EHIC today.
1) It’s the start of the peak summer season for Brits taking holidays abroad.
2) The EHIC card replaced the old E111 form back in 2006 – the EHIC cards are valid for 5 years, so many of them are now becoming invalid and it’s time to get a new one.
3) We’ve been advised that they are some unscupulous websites that are charging people to get their EHIC cards, when in fact it can be done free by either visiting https://www.ehic.org.uk/ or by calling 0845 606 2030. From overseas dial +44 191 218 1999.
